As we expected , the new film of James Cameron, the heroic Avatar, did very well at box office in the launch day, having returns of 27 millions of dollars and tickets sold in 3,452 cinema halls. Although it is a remarkable amount of money, and although the movie is spectacular, and visually extraordinary made, it hasn’t been set a new record.

Taking into consideration that Avatar wasn’t launched in the summery season, the 27 millions bought in the first day of projections represent an incontestable commercial success. Cameron’s movie surpassed, the Ice Age: The Meltdown animation, which got returns in the first day returns of 21 millions of dollars.

The leader of this classification is still I Am Legend, which got returns of 30,1 millions of dollars in premiere day. Although Lord of the Rings made 34 millions of dollars in its launch day, making to the head of the list, the movie is disqualified because it was launched in a Wednesday. It seems weirdl at a first glance but the rankings of this type start from the premise that an ending of December brings less people to cinema than a middle of a December week, and lesser people than any part of a summer week.

Because of a misunderstanding between Sony Pictures and the stage director Sam Raimi, the production of the fourth movie of Spider-Man franchise was cancelled.

It seems that Raimi would like to have as antagonist the infamous Vulture. The original story of the third part should have Sandman as a cell colleague for Vulture, but, after the common escape of the two’s, Vulture forced Sandman to commit murders. The studio didn’t accept the idea and wants to put on screen the famous Venom, this way the Vulture idea had a very short way into the trash basket because of the pressures made by Marvel. We all know which was the ending of these debates.

Here we see producers trying again to convince Raimi to bring into  the movie scene a villain with more public attraction than unfortunate Vulture.

But all these can be considered rumors on a theme, because, officially, the production of Spider-Man 4 got stopped for the simple reasons that winter celebrations are on the way. Another words, there aren’t reasons for us to worry for Spidey’s destiny.

The actor from Matrix trilogy, and will have the role of Roland in this remake produced by Robert Rodriguez will join the distribution made from Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins and Alice Braga.

Taking an ensemble view the movie will present a group of persons which go to the predator’s original planet, where, as we expect they will do their best in order to not get slain by those ferocious alien creatures.

The movie will be launched on 7 July 2010.

Although it is known that Johnny Depp would receive 36 millions of dollars to act as famous Jack Sparrow in the fourth part of the successful franchise and that Rob Marshall would be the most probable candidate to take the directing wheel, the things aren’t still set up.

Frank Miller decided to break the silence code and reveal us fresh information about the 300 prequel which he will direct. It seems that the movie will name Xerxes and its action is placed during the Marathon battle.

The stage director said that he finished the scenery and preparations are made for graphic design.

The battle of Marathon took place at 26 miles of Athens and was given between the Athenian army and the Persian one, lead by Darius I, in 490 BC. Modern history estimates that the greek army had almost 10 000 soldiers, while Persians had double at least. The atheniens beat the Persian army, and legends says that an Athenian ran 42 kilometers from the battlefield to Athens in order to announce the great victory. From here comes the name of marathon competition.

We still don’t know if Rodrigo Santoro will come back to take Xerxes role, as we don’t know if we will have the same approach with shaped bodies worked at gym as in 300.

Variety announces that Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) was distributed in the independent thriller of Roger Donaldson, Hungry Rabbit Jumps, with Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce, January Jones and Harol Perineau.

Carpenter will play the best friend role for the character interpreted by Jones, and Cage was distributed in the role of teacher that “scores” into an underground judiciary organization, after his wife is brutally murdered.

The movie, wrote by Robert Tannen, has a production budget of 30 millions of dollars.

The ones from The Hollywood Reporter announced that Jack Black writes a scenario about cryptozoology for Illumination Entertainment, after a sketch made by Jason Micallef.

Although the details of story haven’t been revealed yet, we can launch some speculations more or less justified. Cryptozoology is the para-science that handles mythical creatures like Bigfoot, Yet or the Loch Ness monster. One first idea would be the one of a movie with supernatural elements. But, knowing Jack Black, we can expect a lot of comic events. Maybe it will be a comic adventure movie.

Black will produce this movie helped by his company Electric Dynamite. We still don’t know if the actor is going to be a part of film’s distribution.
